Health, Nutrition & Wellbeing

Don Bosco Navajeevan (DBNJ), Warangal, ensures regular health screenings for children living in marginalized and high-risk communities. Periodic health check-ups are organized in collaboration with government health departments, local hospitals, and medical professionals to identify common health issues such as anaemia, malnutrition, vision problems, skin infections, and seasonal illnesses. Children requiring further medical attention are referred to nearby government hospitals, and follow-up is ensured to support recovery and continuity of care.

Recognizing the link between health and learning, DBNJ provides nutrition support to children attending community tuition centres, bridge schools, and child activity spaces. Nutritious snacks and meals are provided to address hunger, improve concentration, and reduce absenteeism. Parents are also sensitized on low-cost nutritious diets, hygiene practices, and child care, helping families make better health and nutrition choices despite economic constraints.

DBNJ places strong emphasis on mental health care and psychosocial wellbeing, especially for children exposed to stress, migration, abuse, and unstable family environments. Through trained volunteers and facilitators, children receive basic psychosocial support, emotional first aid, and safe spaces to express their concerns. Children identified with moderate to severe mental health needs are referred to professional counsellors, psychologists, or mental health institutions for specialized care.

In addition, DBNJ integrates psychosocial wellbeing services into its regular programmes through life skills sessions, group activities, play-based learning, and peer support. These activities help children build self-esteem, manage emotions, develop healthy relationships, and cope with everyday challenges. By combining health, nutrition, and mental wellbeing interventions, DBNJ adopts a holistic approach to ensure the overall growth, safety, and wellbeing of children and adolescents.
