Child Protection & Rights

Don Bosco Navajeevan (DBNJ), Warangal, strengthens child rights awareness and participation through structured platforms at the community level. DBNJ has formed and actively supports 20 Adolescent Parliaments and maintains a regular presence in 22 community centres, each supported by a centre teacher and a community facilitator. These platforms enable children and adolescents to learn about their rights, responsibilities, and protection issues. Through meetings, discussions, campaigns, and creative activities, children are encouraged to speak up, participate in decision-making, and become change agents within their communities.

As part of its advocacy and child protection efforts, DBNJ is an active member of the District Forum for Child Rights and works closely with government line departments. DBNJ regularly participates in child rescue operations and rehabilitation programmes led by departments such as the Police (Anti-Human Trafficking Unit – AHTU), Women, Children, Disabled & Senior Citizens Department (WCD&SC), Labour Department, and the Education Department. DBNJ is also a member organization involved in the implementation of the PC&PNDT Act in Hanumakonda District, contributing to district-level monitoring, awareness, and prevention of gender-biased practices.

To address children’s mental health and psychosocial needs, DBNJ has trained and deployed 12 mental health volunteers who work closely with children in vulnerable communities. These volunteers identify children facing emotional distress, trauma, behavioural issues, or psychological challenges arising from abuse, neglect, migration, or poverty. Based on the severity of need, children are provided basic psychosocial support and are referred to professional mental health services, counselling centres, or appropriate institutions, ensuring timely and sensitive care.

DBNJ also facilitates access to government mechanisms and welfare schemes for children and their families. Through awareness, documentation support, and follow-up, children and communities are assisted in availing benefits such as education scholarships, health services, nutrition schemes, life documents, social security programmes, and child protection services. By linking families with existing government systems, DBNJ strengthens long-term protection, reduces vulnerability, and promotes sustainable community development.
